Friendddds!
I had full intentions of posting today but I woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible migraine-like headache and between that, the night sweats, vomiting and the terrible night’s sleep, I seriously just can’t.
So for the first time in ages, I’m actually taking a full day off — from work and from life. Normally, I push myself to work even when I’m sick (due to guilt and fear of getting behind), but not this time. I’ve rescheduled my meetings, put up an out of office and plan to rest all day. The older I get, the more I recognize it’s important to listen to these cues from our bodies.
Sometimes my friends, rest if best.
Tell me: Do you ever push yourself to work even when you’re sick?
I am a firm believer in staying home when I am sick…for two reasons…1) I believe in self care and nobody does it better than me. 2) You get no bonus points for spreading germs and making everyone else sick; and 3) If not me, someone else will and can do it…I got rid of my supergirl wings and shield a long time ago. But get well baby girl, the day off will do you well!
You are absolutely right! And thanks, I’m definitely doing to rest up. Hope you’re doing well. 🙂
Working from home some thinks that well your home so you don’t have to take a sick day, but that’s not true. Sometimes you have to just shut it down and just rest your mind and body. Working from home I’m learning to take breaks, go for walks, and if that migrane is coming to just pop 2 advils and call me in the morning. We tend to push and spread ourselves too thin where we can just get worn out so it doesn’t hurt to take the time for yourself to rest and feel your very best. 🙂 hope your feeling better!! Much love!!
I took my first sick day in December…didn’t log into my email or anything…and my admin assistant called me out in a meeting and said people NEVER take REAL sick days…psh! and reminder, america still has less healthcare and vacation days than other countries…
What? Are you effing kidding me? Unbelievable.
Mecky, Glad you listened to your body and took it easy. Yes, I’ve been known to push myself for the same reasons for you stated. But I remind myself that if (God forbid) I was dead and gone the organization is not going to crumble…. which helps to put the guilt into perspective. It’s always better to take care of yourself first and foremost. ~MOM XOXOXO 🙂
