One week in: a check-in

Hiya friends! Hope you all had a good weekend.

I know it’s late in the day (especially for my East Coast peeps) but here’s a super quick check-in for those wondering…

One week (and a day) on the path to SF and honestly, I kind of like it. Especially on a day like today when it’s 58 degrees and partly sunny.

Obviously, everything is still so new to me but this past weekend has been the most normal weekend I’ve had in this city to-date; and that normalcy was very much welcomed. Thankfully, things are falling into place which is exactly what I need in order to feel better about this transition.

For starters, I got my new bed. (After 5 days of crashing on the couch, my lovely, cushy pillowtop bed was finally delivered). Good sleep for the win!

Second, I had my first official weekend hanging out in the city. Saturday night I met up with some Fuqua peeps, starting out at Noir Lounge in Hayes Valley followed by drinks at a bar in the Marina. On Sunday, I took the BART to the East Bay to meet up with a friend of a friend (checking off those Jan goals!) for a spin class and brunch.

Third, in between going out, I went grocery shopping, put together a dresser and had enough lounge time to finish Narcos.

You see? All normal stuff.

Additionally, I found out the rest of my belongings arrive on Wednesday, so I hope to dig myself out of boxes ASAP. But as you can see, things are definitely coming along.

Tonight I have plans to meet up with some of my girls from Kellogg* for dinner and the Bachelor. I currently do not have cable TV** — which is crazy for a TV addict like myself — so I’m thankful I found a TV crew to hang with on Mondays.

Have a great week!

* Background: Kellogg is the business school at Northwestern. I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before but the b-school circuit is very small, especially if you’re in similar programs, graduated in the same year, happen to be in the same affinity group, etc. Two of the girls I met back in the Fall of 2009 when I was heading into NYC for info sessions, while one of the others was someone I met in 2012 when I moved to Minneapolis (I was at Mills, she was at Target). We all graduated in 2012 … and even though we all started in different places (Minneapolis and NYC) we all live here now. I’m really thankful for connections like this. Makes settling in a lot smoother.

** I’m not going to lie. I feel a little incomplete not having cable. But I’m going to do my best to go without it for a while and see how it goes. In the meantime, I do have Roku which allows me to watch Netflix and Hulu.

  1. Mecky, You amaze me… with ALL that you do and ALL that you have accomplished, that you are a TV addict. You would actually be a good study in debunking the myth of those who think television watching distracts from being educated and successful in life! For your love of TV, I thank the baby JESUS for your Monday hang-out crew, Roku and HULU!!! ~MOM Love you! XOXOXO 🙂
