The Jury is In

If you’ve been reading for a while, you’re probably aware that I’ve been complaining about pain my left foot. A twinge of pain that started four months ago during my Barry’s Bootcamp Academy has turned into a real pain in the… well, foot.

About a month ago, I went to a podiatrist who originally thought I might have hurt my fifth metatarsal and/or have tendinitis (or inflammation) of my peroneal tendons. He gave me an anti-inflammatory, told me absolutely NO running or jumping and sent me on my way with a directive to see him two weeks later. Unfortunately, two weeks later, I was back in his office and still in a lot of pain. With little to no improvement, Dr. Green gave me a script for an ultrasound which I had on Tuesday morning. After 2 days of waiting, the jury is in and I finally have a verdict.

While we had the general area right, we had the cause wrong. Instead of tendinitis of the peroneal tendons, I have tendinosis of the peroneal tendons. While I’m not excited about this, I am actually quite relieved to have a diagnosis. And with a diagnosis, I can focus on treatment.

Since tendinosis implies degeneration of the tendon, I have to have physical therapy for ART which is short for Active Release Technique to help stimulate circulation and relieve scarring and tension in the area. I have no idea if or how this will impact working out, but I assume as long as I stick with the low-impact only “no running, no jumping” directive, I should be good to go.  Dr. Green referred me to a PT in his practice, who’s last name just so happens to be Williams, so I trust that I’ll be in good hands.

My first appointment is on Monday afternoon! Per usual, I’ll keep you posted. 😉

  1. I apologize that I am pulling up on the backend with reading this post as I haven’t checked-in in a while. In any case, I am happy to hear that you received the correct diagnosis and hope that your therapy sessions will eventually make you whole again. Until then I agree with keeping with the low-impact exercise plan unless otherwise directed by your new “Williams” therapist. 🙂
