Weird behavior

Remember the other day when I was ranting about the freezing cold temperatures? Well, who knew these record-breaking numbers were actually a thing called the Polar Vortex? While these temps are obviously extreme, I always find cold weather interesting. It can be beautifully crisp or brutally bone-chilling. While I typically prefer to be hot (not warm but actually hot), I don’t mind a chilly weather day here or there, as it promotes some of my favorite activities: drinking hot cocoa, lounging around in PJs or sweats, catching up on my favorite shows on DVR, answering questions about being single…[insert side eye here].

A few months ago, I took a stab at trying to do the Single Woman’s 30-Day Blogging Challenge, but as life would have it, I got insanely busy and gave up after answering only eight of the thirty questions. However, since the word of 2014 for me seems to be accountability, I thought it would make sense to go back to the questions and finish what I started, no matter how annoying it may be. [And here is where I insert old adage “Better Late than Never”]. So here goes nothing.

9) Your favorite “weird/funny single behavior” – Anything you do that is uniquely YOU and that living alone allows you to do (For example, I sometimes dance around the house with my cat to Frank Sinatra)

Honestly, I’m not quite sure how to answer this question. Are their weird and/or funny single behaviors or just weird and/or funny behaviors? I suppose I have some, but my guess is I’ve probably been doing them so long I’m not even cognizant. Additionally, I have a roommate so I’m pretty sure I, consciously and subconsciously, try not to do anything that would make her want to place an ad to replace me.

That said, I’m a goofy person and naturally I often do goofy things, so I’ll share some of those with behaviors with you. This short list is by no means exhaustive, they just happen to be the three things that are top of mind.

Recite movie quotes from all kinds of movies and integrate them into my everyday life – In particular, I love comedies and chances are, if it’s really funny, I’ve watched it 100+ times therefore memorizing about 95% or more of the lines. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Bad Boys and Mean Girls, anyone? For example, if I’m watching football and a field goal is about to be kicked, I’ll be the first one to quietly but emphatically say under my breath: “Laaaaces Ouuuut!” Those who know Ace get it every time!

Speak Spanish fluently when I’ve had a little too much to drink – Ironically, after a few cocktails my Spanish becomes damn near perfect. Blame it on lower inhibitions and not thinking about it too much, but if I start talking or texting in Spanish after a glass or two, my friends know it’s a wrap. Sadly, I cannot replicate this sober unless I try really, really hard….

And finally, my personal favorite —

Host a random personal dance party – Have you ever seen the movie Weekend at Bernie’s? I personally looooved the first one, but in the second one, Bernie Lomax awakens and does a signature “Bernie” move anytime he hears music. While I don’t always do the Bernie, if I hear music playing, I will bust out the robot or start a personal dance party anytime! Like the physical version of Tourette’s, this happens in the grocery store, at work, on the subway, in my car – anywhere! If music is playing, I’m most likely dancing to it. When the spirit moves you…

These aren’t things I do in secret; they just happen.

So there you have it! In my opinion, it’s nothing too bad but I suppose it could turn a guy off. However, if it were to bother, annoy or embarrass a guy, that’d be a dead giveaway that he is not a match for me. In fact, when I think about it, my ideal partner would recite stupid movie quotes, speak Spanish (or French or Italian or even Pig Latin) when he felt like it and bust a move in the cereal aisle of the grocery store right along with me.

What weird/funny behaviors do you have?
What are your favorite cold weather past-times?

  1. Hahahaha……the last paragraph of your bloglovin entry made me bust out laughing loud… I love your raw candid honesty! Way to lay it out there in the universe. It is the best way to be and honestly believe that because you put it out there, that your ideal partner will come to you reciting movie quotes in relevant languages and busting all sorts of moves in cereal aisles throughout grocery stores right along side you! 🙂 I love it!!!!

  2. “If it were to bother, annoy or embarrass a guy, that’d be a dead giveaway that he is not a match for me.” Amen, sista! He better, or… HE CAN’T SIT WITH US! 😉
